Looking for the Best Summer Job in Colorado?
THIS POSITION IS CLOSED FOR THE 2012 RAFTING SEASON.
River Runners offers an annual guide school for applicants who are interested in becoming a raft guide, but have no previous experience. The cost for accepted guide school applicants is $500, which includes two weeks of formal training. Trainees are provided wetsuits, splash tops, booties, and personal flotation devices during this time. Upon completion of formal training, participants must provide their own personal gear and will be expected to participate in an additional two weeks of informal training. A minimum of 100 hours and 200 miles must be logged before a qualification run can be attempted. Trainees must successfully qualify to become an employee. Training is physically demanding and requires long and sometimes cold days on the river. First-year raft guides can expect to make between $1,500 and $2,500 for the season not including tips. First-year guides at our Buena Vista location will guide class III rafting trips through Browns Canyon.
All commercial raft guides are required to have a current First Aid and CPR certification by an accredited institution (online courses are not accepted). Required personal equipment includes a type III pfd, throw bag, flip line, helmet, whistle and river knife.
