PADDLE or ROW?

Its up to you...you can do either.

Paddling is an exciting, participatory way to run the river. Each boat contains about 6 paddlers plus a guide to call commands. There is a thorough explanation and practice session for paddlers before we start out. The paddle option is available provided water conditions permit.

On the oar boat, your guide does all of the work rowing using oars. Oar boats offer the luxury of relaxing and taking in the scenery.

THRILL RAFTS!
We have limited number of "Thrill Rafts" in our fleet. These smaller versions of the boats that we use everyday. These boats are sure to increase your adrenaline along the way. Thrill rafts assures you wont be crowded, guaranteeing no more than 4 people will be in your raft. You may request one of these boats and they will be provided if available.

All safety equipment and rafting gear is included in the price of your rafting trip.
(Rafts, Guides, Paddles, Life Jackets, and Helmets)

Wetsuit, spray jackets and footwear rentals are available at each of our Arkansas River Locations.

Our Bighorn Sheep Canyon Rafting trip departs daily May-September from our River Runners Royal Gorge Rafting Center in Canon City, Colorado.

The Bighorn Sheep Canyon full day is a 20-mile stretch and offers over ten class III and IV rapids and dozens of intermediate rapids in a beautiful granite canyon. Half way through your trip we will stop and your guides will prepare a fresh homemade riverside lunch.

ITINERARY
BIGHORN SHEEP CANYON ARKANSAS RIVER

This trip departs daily May-September from our River Runners Royal Gorge Office in Canon City, Colorado. You must arrive at River Runners 45 minutes prior to trip departure. You must be ready 15 minutes prior to your departure time for a safety orientation. When you arrive please park your vehicle and check in at our front office. Our courteous River Runners office crew will check you in and answer any questions you have before the trip. At our office and retail store you will have the opportunity to use the restrooms, shop for light snacks and beverages that you may enjoy on your trip. Once all paperwork is finished, your guides will fit you for life jackets. After you are fitted in jackets your whitewater Trip Leader will give a safety talk, designed to familiarize you with basic river features and safety guidelines.

Your full day trip will allow a good mix of waves and whitewater, and time on the river to look for Bighorn Sheep and swim or even jump off   "Jump Rock" if you so desire.  

A few more miles and maybe a water fight and you will land at the take out. A short 15 minute shuttle ride and you are back at River Runners Royal Gorge Office. At our Office you may enjoy a beverage or light snack while viewing a slide show of photographs of your trip. Photos are available for purchase. You may purchase a 8 x 10 photograph or a CDROM of all your photographs. River Runners souvenirs are available for purchase. Our location allows for a unique experience offered by no other outfitter. Our retail shop offers snacks, ice cream, refreshments and souvenirs.
